Jean-Louis Halperin

Jean-Louis Halpérin is a historian of French law.

Former student of the Ecole normale supérieure (1979-1982) and after a thesis on the Tribunal de cassation under the French Revolution, he obtained the aggregation of history of law (major of the competition 1988).

He teaches successively at the University of Lyon-III, at the University of Burgundy and since 2003 at the École normale supérieure where he directed, from 2006 to 2010, the department of social sciences. He was a senior member of the Institut universitaire de France from October 20135to 2018. He was also director of the Centre de théorie et analyse du droit (UMR 7074, CNRS/Université Paris-Nanterre/ENS) from 2015 to 2023 and is still a member.
