Anna Traube
rescapée du Vel' d'hiv'
Anna Traube escaped from the Vel' d'Hiv' following the raid of the Parisian Jews in July 1942 operated by «zealous» French policemen. She was then 20 years old. On 16 July she was arrested at her home and taken to the Vélodrome d'Hiver. Sensing a fatal outcome, she wants to escape and join her relatives whom, in a burst of consciousness, she had taken care to hide. Extreme conditions of detention, hunger, thirst and disease fail to divert her from this goal. She escapes death twice, thanks to her presence of mind and the complicity of a few people (police officer, doctor, worker). Anna Traub died in October 2019.
