Jean Spector

translator

Born in France in 1931 and died in July 2023, Jean Spector is a Yiddish teacher and translator. Coming from a Polish Jewish family, Yiddish is part of his mother tongue. He attended the seminars of Rachel Ertel and Yitskhok Niborski at the University of Paris 7. He regularly attended the Medem Library and the House of Yiddish Culture.
Although Jean Spector, from a Polish family, worked in a number of professions and ran a legendary jazz club on Rue Madame for several years, he was above all a man with an unfailing love for his mother tongue: Yiddish.”
