Shmuel Trigano

Shmuel Trigano was born in 1948 in Blida (Algeria) and left in 1962. After classical studies (Latin-Greek-philosophy) at the Lycée Buffon (Paris), he followed the curriculum of the Bachelor of Arts of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Professor at the University of Paris X-Nanterre, he is also the founder of the College of Jewish Studies of the Universal Israelite Alliance (founded in 1986) and holder of the European Chair of Sephardic Studies on behalf of Elie Benamozegh of the city of Livorno (Italy). In 1985, he founded the Pardès journal of Jewish studies with Annie Kriegel. In 2000, he founded the Observatory of the Jewish World to analyze the phenomenon of the new anti-Semitism, whose work and publications constituted an important moment in the fight against discrimination. In 2006, he created the journal Controversies, devoted to the great problems of our time. In 2013, he created the Popular Unviversité of Judaism, which offers a series of introductions to the fundamental disciplines of Jewish studies.
